The Local Storytellers’ Corner
Greenwood, 254 Main Road, Hudson
Wednesday, October 22
7:30 p.m.
Inspired by one of StoryFest 2008's featured authors, Katherine Barber, and her book, Only in Canada You Say: A Treasury of Canadian Language, as well as some of last year’s StoryFest authors – Noah Richler and Roy MacGregor (who was himself inspired by Bruce Hutchison), let’s create our own collection of Canadian stories. Let us emulate those who have travelled across our country to gather a set of Canadian stories that depict the Canadian identity.
Last year’s storytelling event revealed the high calibre of storytelling the Greenwood crowd has to offer. Our "word artists" are remarkably well read and well travelled, living interesting lives, masters of the word, both spoken and written, and have great stories to tell. So, we are looking forward to a new edition of this local storytellers' gathering. But this year, let’s set the bar a little higher.
Come tell a story that takes place in Canada and could not have taken place anywhere else… or a story that takes place in another country but could only have happened to a Canadian… or a story of first impressions upon arriving in Canada … or something else which could contribute to the general objective of defining the Canadian soul. It can be something you invent, the recounting of a personal experience, or a story you’ve picked up from someone else… Of course, it must be reasonably short.
Rosemarie Belisle, who hosted the event last year, will be welcoming you again this year.
Storytellers, the challenge is yours to pick up – let’s get our heads together and feed the Canadian soul.
